Stephen Mahony - Physiotherapist
Stephen was born and raised in Brisbane and attended the University of Queensland, completing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree. He also conducted a simultaneous research degree, focusing on upper limb neural tissue adaptations in advanced tennis players. He graduated in December 1991 with First Class Honours.
Stephen's work experience includes time at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, aquatic physiotherapy practice, attending to a rugby club, teaching and examining physio students, corporate health seminars and assessments for Telstra, BCC and CUB, and 14 years in physiotherapy private practice. He spent one year working in Vancouver, Canada, and was a physiotherapist at the Goodwill Games 2001, attending to the Track and Field athletes.
Stephen opened Teneriffe Physiotherapy in partnership in January 1998 and has been the practice principal since 2001. He attends conferences and courses each year to keep current with latest knowledge and trends and liaises with colleagues to discuss new advances and difficult cases. Stephen is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, the Sports Physiotherapy Special Interest Group, the Dry Needling Special Interest Group and Sports Medicine Australia. From 2006 to 2008 Stephen served as a local business representative on the BCC Inner North East Community Liaison Committee and is currently a member of the Fortitude Valley Community Planning Team process.
When not at work, Stephen keeps fit by cycling and swimming. He has competed in World Championship duathlons, triathlons, fun-runs, half-marathons, tennis and touch football. He follows all major sports to gain an understanding of the techniques and terminologies particular to each sport.
Karen Topp - Remedial Massage Therapist
Karen is a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist and is a registered member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists. She previously spent 17 years in Public Service secretarial employment, commencing massage studies part time in 1994 for a Certificate of Massage Therapy. Karen returned to complete a second year of study for a Diploma of Natural Therapy (Remedial Massage Therapy) at the Australian Institute of Applied Science in 1999. She commenced working part-time as a massage therapist in 1995 and moved to full time in 2000.
Between 1994 and 1996 Karen completed the Sports Medicine Australia Levels 1 and 2 Sports Trainer courses. She has combined her skills in massage therapy with strapping and early injury management for many sports teams and events including:

Karen has recently qualified as a practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method which explores movement patterns and habits.
Lyn Mahony - Administration and Physio Assistant

Lyn has a background in teaching, mostly English classes at secondary school level. She has gradually increased her knowledge and responsibilities over the past eight years working for Teneriffe Physio. Currently she is responsible for making appointments, processing payments, stock management, marketing and accounting book-work.
Jessie Collins - Administration and Physio Assistant
Jessie is approaching her final year of Human Movement Studies at UQ, with a view to becoming an exercise physiologist. She enjoys trying to keep fit at the gym and commiserating with the injury-prone!
Karla Harrison - Administration and Physio Assistant

Karla is studying Music Production at QUT and would eventually like to work as a music therapist for children with special needs. She keeps busy working as a singer and personal trainer as well as at Teneriffe Physio.
Julia Cook - Administration and Physio Assistant
Julia is studying science at UQ and intends to do further study in medicine or health sciences. In her spare time she plays touch and netball with her friends and has an interest in dance, art and photography.
